What increments your post count?

So I don't want to spam the forums since I've already been warned
But what actually counts towards your post count?
I've noticed that posting in "thread with the most posts" doesn't actually increment my post count, maybe it's not enough characters in my posts?

I'm just trying to reach that 3rd age
