Couldn't agree with you any more for the logo, I dislike it to. It was pretty annoying to find a placement for it.

ill find you the tutorial I used

here try watching this as this is what I used to get the swirly feel then add your preferred colors, i just did a rainbow brush over top it all then turned down opacity, im not professional by any means but if it can help u then i hope it will.
