Hello guys,
How do you feel about quests on an RSPS? Like say you play a RSPS and you want to train Hunter but in order to place boxtraps you must complete a short and easy quest called "Racconous Friend" where you have to catch a racoon for a little boy.
Mainly curious because I've been getting into OSRS recently and I have just found out that they have almost everything locked behind a quest, diary or some sort of step that the player must complete.

It depends on the target audience of your server, if you're making more of an emulation then I'd say quests are a good addition. Only if they are worth doing and aren't tedious such as "bring these items to me for a reward" etc.

Not necessarily an emulation. It's going to be more of a casual Economy server with some new additions (Think in terms of Warding/Necromancy and Zeah/Eastern Lands)

I would say with a custom story line to go with, it's nice. Quests for the sake of quests sounds like a bad idea.

I also think if you were to do quests on an RSPS, they should be less walking from point to point than RS.
I personally hate having to walk for hours just to complete a quest, when the actual actions takes like 5 minutes.

As long as the quest is done properly and has solid content to go along with it then yes!

Custom quests would be cool not many of those around they're usually just remakes. We already have our own maps and adding a bit of text on the quest interface isn't hard so why not ?

If people who wanted to could skip it, that would solve both. As for my moral alignment, making some items locked behind a non skip able quest while making most items widely available.

I agree with Quests that unlock specific skills, and an Economy Server more PVE than PVP would be a good target.
I personally like Quests as long as they're worth doing.
I hope everything works out.

Takes too long and the rewards are terrible (on 07 and the rspses that have/had quests)

I have personally tried this, and will probably put into my new server when it gets to that point. The problem with custom quests is they have to have a point. As most servers, nobody is looking for custom quests. so you have to appeal to the players, while giving them a reason to want to do them. it also takes a lot of backend thought into creating a storyline

I personally am a big fan of them but I understand why people avoid them when including them on their seriver. I think Achievements and Diaries have some what supplemented them

I'd say yes to quests as long as it wasn't 100% neccessary to complete them..
I have thought about quests for an RSPS but I think it would be better to offer Daily Achievemenets, Daily Jobs, etc.

I think if you are writing creative quests and are using custom assets such as maps then it could feel fresh and organic. You will definitely have to appeal to the audience though (Ex. If it is a 100x server you can't expect the players to want to do a lengthy quest).

Make them optional but give the player who does the quest advantages like xp reward or maybe an item that allows higher success rate
