Still waiting for the next steps to making r-s great again after ousting kevy ?? We continue to skirt around this key element lmao

So I had some brief thoughts on this topic..

Yesterday on the Discord, we discussed a desktop software tool that would incorporate the toplist in a way that lists servers and allows players to safely launch them from their PC.
By safely, this would mean the introduction of a sandboxing feature - a feature which has been more than necessary in RSPS, since RCE has been a thing.

There have been attempts to get this done before, I believe somebody mention RuneList in our discussion, but ideally this would be adopted by Rune-Server.

Wouldn't this require cooperation from the server owners though?

In addition to introducing a system to keep players safe, what this would be doing would be raising the bar for RSPS.
With respect to requiring cooperation from the server owners - they'd simply have to adapt to how the new system requires them to advertise their server.

I understand and respect that it would be raising the bar for sure. But my question is what happens when server owners don't? You'll have a group of servers which implement the changes, but chances are the larger ones aren't going to if my understanding of how these people are is correct. And I don't think it will really help revive the scene at all.

They'd be opting out of classifying their server as a safe-to-play server, which is concerning in and of itself.
This should really already be implemented, because currently, if server owners have malicious intent, they can perform it on your system without you knowing.

Personally, I open every RSPS I play on a separate machine for this reason.

When I hear or see this I kind of think of a company, or an NFL team. A company has employees that might not necessarily know what steps to take to successfully transform a business. But a CEO or like-of behind the scenes with access to other things sight unseen to the masses may find changes that need to be made or areas that can be improved, etc... Same as a sports team, fans when a team does so bad for so long they want the owner of the team's head. Well, the fans can't tell you exactly what's wrong as they aren't in the offices everyday or don't have access to certain metrics others do. But when changes happen/occur you see fans/individuals reinvigorate.

I say this to say this, I have been here almost 15 years and the I personally don't know much about Kevy other than he has had a scooter fund since I've been here. I don't know enough to be on the side of axing him or keeping him lol (even though we have no choice, IT'S HIS SHIT). But I have seen Rune-Server stay exactly the same for all those years for the most part. Is it fair to put it all on members by stating "What changes have you suggested"? No it isn't but when also SHOULD suggest things. It's a hand-in-hand partnership.

TL;DR Don't know Kevy. Don't know if him being here or selling or w/e is good. Suggestions should come from both sides. Stop being stagnant. Improve dis sheet. k thx

PS. This is my opinion.

K yeah, we heard this before. What are your suggestions for improvement? Lmao

Modernized forum software, graphical revamp? Desktop client suggestion from Tyluur? Few good ones in here and some that are lingering in Suggestions atm.

I just don't understand how this will bring more players/developers to a dying scene. Modernized forum software is great and all but it's not going to attract people who are not interested in private servers as a player or a developer.

The foregone conclusion is that none of us have an actual definite answer. But there are certain people here who still live and breathe R-S with a passion and want to throw everything including the kitchen sink at it to revive it. So it's either a we try this, or we do nothing spectrum. Which end are you on? Lol....

Yes, popularity has decreased in the private server scene amongst other issues. Im sure people aren't looking to bring it back to early 2010s.

I understand that. I love private servers. This was such an integral part of my teenage years. I would love to see it revived to how it once was but I don't think it ever can be again. The interest just isn't there.

The good old days will never be back, but that doesn't mean we can't make future memories.

No I said better, you're still the same. Joking lol

I was a little abrasive to songoty before, he seems like a standup guy but I don't agree with him at all on the inevitability of forums dying, there's plenty of communities I'm in where they are thriving (music, other games), it's just this one has been stagnant for quite a while.

I have zero interest in making money, in fact I can honestly say I have never charged a single penny for work I've done on here, from the numerous advice and help I've given, working for various servers, trying to get hyperion adopted by the masses in 09, even recruiting other members who have gone on to contribute hugely in their own right, not a single penny honestly. I just love this game, yes it's a shitty mouse click RPG that's easily bottable and fuels the Venezuelan economy, but it's also a game of continuous discovery, of random joy and used to be one of community, that aspect unfortunately has died considerably. I for one am willing to listen to anyone that even attempts to revive it, because if we don't we deprive kids of the same joy that we had, discovering runescape for the first time and building our own servers with it.

funny we mentioned drama in this thread, and we spin some of our own. old habits die hard, eh.

but yes, age of forums is dying. even the new and improved "forum software" that is becoming the rage feels so absent from the traditional style of how forums are created.
